Terms of Service
Effective Date: October 22, 2026
Last Updated: October 22, 2026
Welcome to Generational Story.
Generational Story, LLC, doing business as Generational Story ("Generational Story," "we," "our," or "us"), is a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Washington, United States.
Generational Story provides digital tools to capture, organize, preserve, and share personal memories, family histories, photographs, videos, audio recordings, documents, and related materials.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website, digital Vaults, albums, subscriptions, Permanent Storage, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
By creating an account, purchasing storage, accepting an invitation to collaborate, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you use the Services on behalf of another individual or organization, you represent that you have the authority necessary to do so.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the Services.
1. Purpose of the Services
Generational Story is designed to help individuals and families preserve the stories, memories, and experiences that connect generations.
The Services may include:
- Digital Vaults for storing personal and family memories.
- Albums containing photographs, videos, audio, documents, and written stories.
- Timelines and organizational tools.
- Sharing and collaboration with family members and others.
- QR codes and links connecting physical objects to digital memories.
- Subscription and Permanent Storage options.
- AI-assisted organization, search, and other features as they become available.
- Professionally managed Vaults and authorized memory-sharing arrangements.
Features may vary by account, storage plan, product version, and availability.
Generational Story may introduce, improve, modify, or discontinue individual features, subject to applicable law and existing contractual commitments.
2. Account Registration and Responsibilities
A. Account Information
You agree to provide accurate information when registering for or using the Services and to maintain the accuracy of information necessary for account administration.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activities conducted through your account, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
You agree to notify Generational Story promptly if you become aware of unauthorized access or a security concern involving your account.
B. Account Eligibility
You must be legally capable of entering into these Terms or have appropriate authorization from a parent, guardian, or other legally responsible person.
Adults may upload family memories involving children when they have the necessary rights or permissions.
C. Account Security
You agree not to share passwords in a manner that compromises account security, attempts unauthorized access, or interferes with the security or operation of the Services.
3. Vault Ownership and Content Ownership
A. Ownership of a Vault
A Vault may be created and owned by an individual, family representative, professional, or organization.
The Vault owner is responsible for the administration of the Vault, including its storage plan, authorized users, and management arrangements.
Vault ownership does not automatically establish ownership of all photographs, recordings, documents, or other materials stored within it.
B. Ownership of Memories and Other Content
You retain the ownership and intellectual property rights you hold in the content you upload or contribute ("Vault Content").
Generational Story does not acquire ownership of your memories merely because they are stored through the Services.
Where a Vault contains content belonging to multiple contributors, each contributor retains whatever rights they legally hold in their respective materials.
C. License to Provide the Services
By uploading or contributing Vault Content, you grant Generational Story a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, convert, transmit, display, back up, preserve, and otherwise use that content as reasonably necessary to provide the Services.
This license also permits processing by authorized service providers acting on our behalf.
The license continues for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, fulfill applicable preservation commitments, administer authorized sharing arrangements, or comply with applicable law.
It does not authorize Generational Story to use your private memories in advertising or promotional materials without appropriate express permission.
D. Your Responsibility for Uploaded Content
You represent that you have the rights, permissions, or other lawful authority necessary to upload, store, and share the content you contribute.
You agree not to upload content in violation of another person's intellectual property, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or other legal rights.
4. Sharing, Co-Editors, and Contributors
A. Full Vault Management
Vault owners may invite an unlimited number of co-editors who share full control of the Vault.
Co-editors may manage and organize memories, create or edit albums, invite contributors, and perform other available Vault management functions.
The Vault owner is responsible for choosing trusted co-editors.
Because co-editors may have extensive authority over Vault Content, their actions may affect the organization, accessibility, sharing, or availability of memories.
Full control of a Vault does not necessarily provide access to another user's individual login credentials, payment information, or personal account settings.
B. Album-Level Sharing
Vault owners and authorized co-editors may invite individuals to view or contribute to selected albums without granting full Vault management permissions.
Permissions may vary by role and feature.
C. Responsibility for Sharing
You are responsible for the permissions you grant and for ensuring that sharing is consistent with applicable rights, agreements, and legal requirements.
Individuals receiving access to Vault Content may be able to copy, download, photograph, or otherwise retain information made available to them.
Generational Story cannot guarantee the retrieval or deletion of copies independently retained by recipients.
D. QR Codes and Shared Links
Generational Story may provide QR codes and links that allow authorized recipients to access designated memories.
Users are responsible for selecting appropriate privacy settings and exercising care when placing QR codes or sharing links in publicly accessible locations.
A publicly accessible QR code or link may be viewed or forwarded by individuals beyond the original intended recipients, depending on the applicable access settings.
5. Professionally Managed Vaults
A. Professional Ownership and Administration
A Vault may be created, purchased, owned, or administered by a professional or organization on behalf of another person.
Such arrangements may involve estate planning professionals, memory preservation providers, digitization services, or other authorized parties.
The professional or organization is responsible for establishing the appropriate contractual relationship with the individuals whose memories are being preserved.
B. Separate Rights to Content
Professional ownership or administration of a Vault does not automatically transfer copyright or other ownership rights in the memories stored within it.
The professional must obtain appropriate permissions for uploading, managing, preserving, and distributing content.
C. Written Authorization for Memory Sharing
With appropriate written authorization, a professional or other authorized Vault administrator may share selected memories with designated recipients.
The authorization should identify the content or categories of content that may be shared, the intended recipients, and any timing or restrictions.
Sharing may be authorized during the individual's lifetime or after death.
For example, an individual may authorize a professional to send selected memories to family members on the individual's birthday after their passing, allowing loved ones to celebrate and remember that person's life.
Other authorized occasions may include anniversaries, holidays, family milestones, or memorial events.
D. Changes to Authorization
During their lifetime, individuals may modify or withdraw their sharing authorization in accordance with applicable law, their agreements with the Vault administrator, and available procedures.
Changes generally apply to future sharing and do not necessarily reverse distributions already completed.
Following death, authorized sharing may continue according to valid documented instructions, subject to applicable law and any legally effective restrictions.
E. Responsibility of Professionals
Professionals and organizations managing Vaults are responsible for complying with applicable privacy, confidentiality, consent, and professional obligations.
Generational Story is not responsible for independent disclosures made by a professional outside the Services, except to the extent responsibility is imposed by applicable law.
6. Acceptable Use and Family-Oriented Content Standards
Generational Story is intended for preserving family memories, personal histories, and meaningful experiences suitable for sharing across generations.
Users agree to respect that purpose.
A. Prohibited Content
You may not upload, store, distribute, or otherwise use the Services for:
- Pornographic material or sexually explicit content intended for sexual arousal.
- Child sexual abuse or exploitation material.
- Content that sexually exploits, abuses, or endangers any individual.
- Unlawful threats, harassment, intimidation, or targeted abuse.
- Content shared in violation of another person's privacy or legal rights.
- Material that unlawfully infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights.
- Fraudulent, deceptive, or otherwise unlawful activities.
- Malicious software, harmful code, or attempts to compromise the Services.
- Other content or activities prohibited by these Terms or applicable law.
B. Pornographic Content — Zero Tolerance
Pornographic content is strictly prohibited, whether privately stored or shared with others.
If Generational Story becomes aware of prohibited pornographic material, whether through a complaint, lawful account review, technical maintenance, or another source, we will remove it or disable access to it, regardless of whether anyone has submitted a complaint.
This restriction does not automatically prohibit legitimate family photographs, historical records, medical information, educational materials, or other non-pornographic content that may contain nudity.
C. Harmful or Unauthorized Sharing
Individuals who believe that content about them has been shared without appropriate permission, violates their privacy, infringes their rights, or causes them harm may request review.
Generational Story may investigate reported content and take appropriate action based on the circumstances, applicable law, and these Terms.
D. Content Review and Enforcement
Generational Story reserves the right to review content when reasonably necessary to investigate a complaint, maintain the Services, protect individuals, enforce these Terms, or comply with legal obligations.
When we determine that content violates these Terms or applicable law, we may:
- Remove the content.
- Restrict or disable access.
- Disable sharing links.
- Require changes to permissions.
- Suspend or terminate an account.
- Take other appropriate corrective action.
We may take action without prior notice when reasonably necessary to address serious violations, unlawful material, or immediate security concerns.
We are not obligated to monitor every file or communication and do not guarantee that all prohibited content will be identified immediately.
E. Reporting Violations
Reports of inappropriate, harmful, or unauthorized content may be submitted to:
We may request additional information to evaluate the report.
Removal from Generational Story does not necessarily remove copies already downloaded or distributed by other individuals.
7. Privacy and Access by Generational Story Personnel
We respect the privacy of the memories and documents stored through our Services.
We do not use your private Vault Content for advertising, testimonials, demonstrations, or promotional purposes without appropriate express permission.
Authorized Generational Story employees, contractors, and service partners may access Vault Content when reasonably necessary to:
- Provide customer support.
- Assist with account maintenance.
- Troubleshoot technical issues.
- Maintain storage, backups, and preservation systems.
- Investigate security incidents or reported content.
- Enforce these Terms.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
Such access is intended to be limited to legitimate operational, technical, security, or legal purposes.
Our collection, processing, disclosure, and retention of personal information are further described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Voluntary Testimonials and Promotional Use
Generational Story may invite users to voluntarily share examples of how the Services have helped them preserve or share memories.
Examples may include photographs, recordings, stories, albums, or testimonials.
Participation is optional.
We will obtain appropriate express authorization before using identifiable private Vault Content for marketing, advertising, demonstrations, promotional videos, or other public-facing promotional purposes.
Any permission will be subject to the scope of the applicable authorization.
Declining such requests will not affect your eligibility to use the Services.
9. Storage Plans, Subscriptions, and Payments
A. Available Plans
Generational Story may offer free access, introductory plans, subscriptions, Permanent Storage purchases, storage upgrades, and optional paid features.
The storage capacity, included features, pricing, duration, and other terms of each plan will be described at the time of purchase.
B. Subscriptions
Subscription plans may renew automatically where disclosed and authorized during purchase.
Applicable billing terms, renewal frequency, cancellation procedures, and charges will be presented through the purchasing process.
Unless otherwise required by law or expressly stated in the applicable offer, cancellation prevents future renewal charges but does not automatically entitle the purchaser to a refund for an already-paid subscription period.
C. Storage Limits
Each storage plan may have specified capacity limits.
Users are responsible for managing their storage within the applicable limits or purchasing additional capacity when available.
Generational Story may establish reasonable technical limits relating to file sizes, formats, uploads, processing, or usage to protect service performance and reliability.
D. Payments
Payments may be processed through third-party payment providers.
You authorize the applicable charges associated with your purchases and subscriptions.
You are responsible for applicable taxes unless otherwise stated.
E. Refunds
Refund eligibility is governed by the terms disclosed at purchase, any separately published refund policy, and applicable consumer protection law.
Nothing in these Terms limits non-waivable statutory refund rights.
10. Permanent Storage and Long-Term Preservation
A. Purpose of Permanent Storage
Permanent Storage is designed to provide long-term preservation and accessibility for designated digital memories and records without requiring ongoing storage subscription renewals.
It is intended to differ from ordinary subscription storage.
B. Long-Term Preservation Trust
A portion of every Permanent Storage purchase is contributed to a separate trust established to help support the long-term preservation and accessibility of permanent records.
The trust is intended to provide financial resources for continuing storage, infrastructure, preservation, and access.
The trust is governed by its own legal documents, which control its administration and distributions.
The trust does not transfer ownership of individual memories to the trustee merely because those memories are stored through Generational Story.
C. Generational Access Through QR Codes
Permanent Storage is intended to allow future generations to access preserved memories through lasting links and QR codes without maintaining the original purchaser's storage subscription.
QR codes may be attached to photographs, family records, memorials, keepsakes, headstones, and other physical objects.
The ability to view particular records remains subject to their privacy settings, applicable permissions, and security requirements.
D. Changes in Technology
Technology, file formats, storage providers, security standards, websites, and access methods may change over time.
Generational Story may modify the technology used to preserve or provide access to Permanent Storage records when reasonably necessary to maintain compatibility, security, accessibility, or operational continuity.
A particular QR code, URL, website, or technical method of access is not guaranteed to remain unchanged indefinitely.
E. Continuity Beyond Generational Story
Permanent Storage is designed with the intention of supporting access even if Generational Story changes ownership, reorganizes, or eventually ceases operating.
The separate trust provides an additional layer of long-term planning.
If Generational Story were discontinued without a successor, our intent is to preserve access to customer records wherever reasonably possible.
If future circumstances make continued online preservation impractical or impossible, the trust provisions contemplate the orderly distribution of client assets and records before dissolution under the applicable circumstances.
F. Limits of the Commitment
Permanent Storage represents our long-term preservation commitment and the additional precautions taken to support that commitment. It is not an absolute guarantee against every possible loss, interruption, or technological change.
Circumstances beyond our reasonable control—including cybersecurity incidents, natural disasters, infrastructure failures, legal changes, technological obsolescence, and failures of third-party providers—may affect preservation or access.
Nothing in this section eliminates obligations expressly assumed by Generational Story or rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

11. Account Closure, Content Deletion, and Termination
A. Voluntary Account Closure
Users may request account closure through available procedures or by contacting Generational Story.
The consequences of closure may depend on the storage plan, Vault ownership, existing collaborators, and applicable preservation arrangements.
B. Shared and Professionally Managed Vaults
Closing an individual account does not necessarily require deletion of an entire Vault where other authorized co-editors, contributors, owners, or administrators have continuing rights.
Where a professional owns or administers a Vault, access and deletion requests may also be subject to the applicable agreement and legal rights of other individuals.
C. Permanent Storage
Permanent Storage may continue independently of the original purchaser's active account, subject to applicable preservation commitments, permissions, and legal requirements.
D. Termination for Violations
Generational Story may suspend, restrict, or terminate access for material violations of these Terms, including prohibited content, misuse, fraud, or security threats.
Where reasonable and legally appropriate, we may provide notice and an opportunity to correct a violation.
Serious violations may require immediate action.
E. Retention and Deletion
Following closure or termination, content and personal information may be deleted, retained, or preserved in accordance with the applicable plan, these Terms, our Privacy Policy, legal obligations, and valid preservation arrangements.
We will honor applicable privacy and deletion rights, subject to lawful exceptions.
12. Access Following Death or Incapacity
Generational Story encourages Vault owners to appoint trusted co-editors and establish appropriate access arrangements while they are living.
Existing co-editors may continue exercising authorized Vault permissions following the original owner's death or incapacity, subject to applicable law and these Terms.
Requests by executors, trustees, personal representatives, or other legally authorized individuals may require verification of identity and legal authority.
Being a family member or beneficiary does not automatically grant unrestricted access to private Vault Content.
Written instructions for professionally managed Vaults may authorize continued sharing of designated memories after death.
13. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Features
Generational Story may offer AI-assisted or automated features that help organize, search, transcribe, summarize, or present Vault Content.
Availability may vary over time.
When users enable applicable features, relevant content may be processed by Generational Story or authorized technology providers.
AI-generated or automated results may contain errors or omissions and should be reviewed before being relied upon.
Generational Story does not guarantee the accuracy of automated descriptions, identifications, transcriptions, historical interpretations, or other generated results.
Our Privacy Policy describes how personal information and Vault Content may be processed in connection with these features.
14. Intellectual Property of Generational Story
The Generational Story name, logos, software, interfaces, designs, and other proprietary elements of the Services are owned by Generational Story or its licensors.
These Terms do not transfer ownership of those materials to users.
Subject to these Terms, Generational Story grants users a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable right to access and use the Services for their intended purposes.
Users may not copy, reverse engineer, resell, interfere with, or exploit the software or Services except as permitted by applicable law or express written authorization.
This section does not restrict users' lawful rights in their own Vault Content.
15. Third-Party Services
Generational Story may rely on third-party providers for payment processing, cloud storage, hosting, communications, AI processing, and other technical services.
These providers may have their own terms and privacy policies.
Generational Story is not responsible for independently operated third-party websites or services outside our control, except as required by applicable law or contractual obligations.
16. Service Availability and Backups
We strive to provide reliable storage and access, but uninterrupted service cannot be guaranteed.
Temporary interruptions may result from maintenance, updates, network problems, security events, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
We may perform maintenance or modify technical infrastructure as necessary to operate and protect the Services.
Users are encouraged to maintain independent copies of especially important materials where practical.
This recommendation does not diminish our express storage or preservation obligations.
17. Disclaimers
Except for express commitments made in these Terms, applicable purchase agreements, or as required by law, the Services are provided on an "as available" basis.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Generational Story disclaims implied warranties that may otherwise apply, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement.
We do not warrant that the Services will be entirely error-free, uninterrupted, or immune from every security threat.
These disclaimers do not override express Permanent Storage commitments or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Generational Story will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of the Services, including lost profits or business opportunities.
For other claims arising from the Services, Generational Story's aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of the amounts paid by the claimant for the affected Services during the preceding twelve months or $100, except where a different limitation is required by applicable law or expressly agreed in writing.
This limitation does not exclude liability that cannot legally be limited, including liability arising from fraud, willful misconduct, or other non-waivable obligations.
The application of these limitations to Permanent Storage purchases and preservation commitments is subject to the express terms governing those purchases and applicable law.
19. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law, users agree to defend and indemnify Generational Story against third-party claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable expenses arising from:
- Content uploaded or distributed without necessary rights or permissions.
- Material violations of these Terms.
- Unlawful use of the Services.
- Unauthorized disclosures or misuse of content by the user.
This provision does not require a user to indemnify Generational Story for the company's own unlawful conduct or negligence to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
20. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws require otherwise.
Before initiating formal legal proceedings, users are encouraged to contact Generational Story to seek an informal resolution.
Unless applicable law requires otherwise, disputes arising under these Terms may be brought before courts of competent jurisdiction in Washington State.
Nothing in these Terms prevents a user from exercising non-waivable rights under applicable consumer protection or privacy laws.
21. Changes to the Services and These Terms
Generational Story may update these Terms to reflect changes in technology, services, operations, or applicable law.
We will update the Last Updated date when changes are made.
Where required by law, we will provide advance notice or obtain consent before material changes take effect.
Changes will not retroactively eliminate vested rights or express preservation commitments where doing so would violate applicable law or binding contractual obligations.
Continued use of the Services after revised Terms become effective may constitute acceptance where permitted by applicable law.
22. General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect to the extent permitted by law.
Failure to enforce a provision does not waive the right to enforce it later.
Generational Story may assign these Terms in connection with a lawful merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of the Services, subject to applicable law and existing contractual obligations.
Users may not transfer their contractual rights or obligations without appropriate authorization, except where permitted by law or an applicable succession arrangement.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any applicable purchase terms or written agreements, constitute the agreement governing use of the Services.
If a separately executed written agreement expressly governs a professionally managed Vault or particular storage purchase, that agreement will control to the extent of a direct conflict, subject to applicable law.
